The Macallan presents ‘A Night on Earth – The First Light’
The Macallan launches the fourth edition of its annual A Night on Earth series: The First Light celebrates the arrival of the new year and the first sunrise. The edition combines exceptional craftsmanship with inspiration from nature, light and new beginnings.
Limited edition single malt with a unique character
- Matured in a selection of sherry-stored American and European oak casks, complemented by previous bourbon casks, for a delicate sweetness and complex layers of aroma.
- Taste: vibrant notes of berry compote, toasted marshmallows, pavlova (regionally adaptable) and manuka honey. Gentle spices and a smooth oak finish underscore the contemplative joy of a new year.
- Alcohol content: 43%.
Artistic design
The packaging was designed in collaboration with New Zealand artist Bonnie Brown. Her illustrations capture the themes of hope, renewal and togetherness, visualising the celebrations of the first light – from sunset to dawn. Each edition in the series is reinterpreted annually by local artists.

The Macallan controls every step of the whisky-making process – from cask to bottling – ensuring the highest quality. Each bottle of The First Light undergoes an average of 636 sensory checks before it goes on sale.

The A Night on Earth The First Light edition will be available worldwide from November 2025 at selected retailers. It is the ideal gift for celebrating special moments and combining exceptional quality with a story.

Tasting Notes
- Nose: Caramel notes of burnt icing sugar are reminiscent of Christmas pavlova and coconut. There is also a fleeting scent of manuka honey, unique in character and native to New Zealand. Unmistakably Scottish at its core, this single malt acknowledges its antipodean history with a finish that is sweet and fruity, with gentle spices and toasted oak.
- Taste: Rich caramel with mild baking spices, vanilla ice cream, pavlova, icing sugar, stone fruit and a subtle hint of coconut and manuka honey.
- Finish: Sweet and fruity with gentle spices and toasted oak.
