The inclusion of Piper-Heidsieck in our portfolio, one of the world’s best-known and most renowned champagne brands, is not a surprise. Founded in 1785 in Reims, the house has been a purveyor to the courts of no less than 14 European royal and imperial houses throughout its history. Our second focal brand RARE Champagne was first presented with the 1976 vintage. This outstanding prestige cuvée belonged to Piper-Heidsieck until 2018 and was subsequently established as an independent brand.
The Piper-Heidsieck Champagne House has a long history. It began with the vision of a young German man, Florenz-Ludwig Heidsieck, who back in 1785 wanted to produce sparkling wines worthy of a queen. Today, the young winemaker Emilien Boutillat is continuing to perfect this long-standing vision.
Since 1976, Rare Champagne has presented the best vintages in the most exclusive form. It is only produced in special years. To date, only 12 vintages have been brought to market. The champagne matures on its lees for at least 9 years before it is released on the market. In March 2022, the young and talented Emilien Boutillat took over the reins from Régis Camus. He will continue the success story of Rare Champagne as Chief Winemaker.
Jean-Claude Mas's objective was simple: he wanted to make wine from the best crus in Languedoc that were a perfect complement to the creative cuisine in his restaurant. Mas created much more than a house wine. His Côte Mas line is synonymous with straightforwardness, terroir expression, charm and genuine pleasure.
