The Balvenie Single Barrel 12 Years Old: one cask, no more than 300 bottles
The Balvenie Single Barrel 12 Years Old is now part of the Dettling & Marmot AG range. Each release comes from a single first-fill ex-bourbon cask, and every bottle is numbered.
Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie examines hundreds of casks before selecting one for the Single Barrel. Only casks that clearly express the distillery’s honeyed character are bottled. A single cask yields no more than 300 bottles, and the number on each bottle shows which cask it came from.
The Single Barrel 12 Years Old is bottled at 47.8% ABV. The 75 cl bottle is a feature of the current edition, as whiskies in Switzerland are usually sold in 70 cl. As every cask brings its own nuances, each batch differs slightly. Nose: sweet toffee, vanilla, honey, subtle spice and delicate toasted oak. Palate: liquid honey and sweet cereal notes, a hint of citrus, fruity notes and gentle spice. Finish: long and lingering.

The Balvenie Distillery
Little has changed at the distillery in Dufftown, Speyside, since it was founded. The Balvenie grows its own barley, malts traditionally on the floor and employs coppersmiths and coopers on site. Together with its sister distillery Glenfiddich, The Balvenie remains independent and owned by the founding family.
