Magnus Eunson, butcher and church employee by day, smuggler by night, distilled in a small hut near High Park overlooking Kirkwall \u2013 where the distillery still stands today. Highland Park was officially founded in 1798, but in reality this was the year the authorities finally managed to arrest Magnus \u2013 whisky had been distilled there before. With the exception of smuggling, little has changed since then. Highland Park has remained true to its founder&#8217;s high quality standards for over 220 years. The following five cornerstones are crucial to this: aromatic peat from Hobbister Moor, its own hand-operated floor malting, select sherry oak casks, cask maturation under ideal conditions in the temperate island climate, and slow cask harmonisation. These five cornerstones make Highland Park one of the best single malts in the world.
